US Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) has called out President Biden (D) for securing the Capitol with fencing and national guard units in preparation for the State of the Union Address, but won't look to secure the Southern Border with Mexico with fencing and military troops.
Tonight, Biden will deliver his first State of the Union Address since taking office in January of 2021. Many have speculated how the president will address the many crises created under his administration, but few have commented on the extreme safety provisions taken in DC.
President Biden previously requested to have all 50 states send National Guard units to deploy for his speech, which Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) denied. Capitol Hill police have already erected a temporary border-style fence around the complex.
Congressman Brian Mast Tweeted a picture of the blocked-off capitol with remarks that blasted Biden for his safety measures, attempting to make the president look hypocritical in regard to the Southern Border Crisis.
"Why is it that every time Joe Biden comes to the Capitol he builds a wall around it but he refuses to protect our southern border in the same way," questioned Rep. Mast.
Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger announced on Sunday that an inner-perimeter fence will be installed around the Capitol for Tuesday’s address.
He said the decision to resurrect the fence was made “Out of an abundance of caution, and in conjunction with the United States Secret Service.”
Security measures in the nation's capitol have changed since the January 6th riot that took place early last year. Many GOP lawmakers wanted to see the Capitol once again opened, but that appears to no longer be the case.
