As President Joe Biden’s (D) Administration nears its first year in office, the President is touting accomplishments while GOP lawmakers are raising concerns. Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R), who’s currently running a reelection campaign against Florida Rep. Val Demings (R) , spoke to The Floridian about the Biden Administration’s response to illegal immigration and the border.
As the country continues to face a growing number of illegal immigrants, the Florida Republican said that this is due to “an administration that doesn’t enforce the law.”
“In just a year, President Biden and Vice President Harris have helped get more than 200 million Americans fully vaccinated, signed historic legislation like the American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law into law, and tackled the supply chain backlog head-on,” said a message from the Biden team directed to supporters.
Though Florida GOP members have been at odds with the Administration over its measures, the Floridian reached out to Senator Rubio to discuss what are some issues that the Biden Administration needs to tackle in 2022.
For the Senator, a pressing issue is the growing illegal immigration concerns.
“This is what happens when you have an Administration that doesn’t enforce the law,” said Rubio, adding that “President Biden encouraged people to come to America illegally and now he is making it easier for them to stay here illegally.”
Calling it “dangerous and irresponsible,” Rubio expressed that “the Biden Administration needs to restart construction of the wall, actually enforce the Remain in Mexico policy, and give our border patrol agents the resources they need to counter the cartels, drug smugglers, human traffickers, and other criminals.”
Last week, Jamal Simmons, the newly-hired Communications Director for Vice President Kamala Harris (D)faced criticism over past tweets regarding the subject. In response to the criticism, Simmons apologized for having issued said tweets.
