Wasserman Schultz Says 'SCOTUS Ruling Sets Back our Fight'

Share

President Joe Biden (D) and Democrats have long supported enacting vaccine mandates for large companies, but the Biden Administration suffered a political hit this week after the U.S. Supreme Court blocked the mandate. In response, President Biden voiced his disappointment, and the sentiment was echoed by a number of Democrats across the country, including Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D).

Rep. Wasserman Schultz voiced her disapproval on Twitter, saying that the decision from SCOTUS “sets back our fight” against the pandemic.

In a statement, President Biden expressed that “the Court has ruled that my administration cannot use the authority granted to it by Congress to require this measure, but that does not stop me from using my voice as President to advocate for employers to do the right thing to protect Americans’ health and economy.”

The President then called on companies across the country to “institute vaccination requirements to protect their workers, customers, and communities.”

This same week, Citigroup announced that employees that are not vaccinated would be fired from their jobs.

Rep. Wasserman Schultz, a proponent of the mandate, issued a response on Twitter to the Supreme Court’s ruling, shared that the decision is detrimental as the country continues to combat the ongoing pandemic.

“This SCOTUS ruling sets back our fight to slay COVID and fails our workers,” she wrote, adding that hopes “states & businesses adopt smart vaccine & mask rules to curb COVID’s spread.”

She then vowed that “House Democrats will not stop fighting to protect workers” against COVID.
