During a press conference in West Palm Beach, Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis was asked his thoughts about the 1-year anniversary of the January 6 Capitol riot, where the first term governor compared the riot to the “attempted assassination of Republican members of Congress” at congressional baseball game practice on June 14, 2017.
Gov. DeSantis, who was on the field shortly before the shooting took place, said that the Capitol riot last year was Christmas for media outlets based in Washington, D.C., and New York.
“The DC/New York media, this is their Christmas, January 6, ok,” said Gov. DeSantis. They are going to take this, and milk this for anything they could to try to be able to smear anyone who ever supported Donald Trump.”
“I actually was on the field, this guy it was a big Bernie Sanders guy, was definitely a politically motivated attack, you know came up pulled his van and we didn't think anything of it we walked out to go to the car,” said DeSantis as he retold what he personally experienced when Rep. Steve Scalise and 5 others were shot.
DeSantis praised the Capitol Police officers at the field that day and pointed out that the blatant assassination attempt received minimal news coverage in comparison to the Capitol riot that took place.
DeSantis added that the January 6 riot allows media outlets to “create narratives that are negative about people supporting Donald Trump.”
