Cammack Defends DeSantis, Reminds AOC to Reach out to her Breast Cancer Constituents

Share

Florida Democrats like Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz have been fueling the narrative that Gov. Ron DeSantis was "MIA" from his job as the new wave of COVID-19 cases swept across the state. But it wasn't until Progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez piled on that Republican lawmakers like Rep. Kat Cammack came out to defend Gov. DeSantis.

"@AOC next time you criticize a man for being w/ his wife during her cancer treatment, please cc the 1 in 8 women in your own district who are fighting breast cancer…" stated Rep. Cammack.
Rep. Cammack was referring to the recent story that outlined Gov. DeSantis taking time off from work to attend First Lady Casey DeSantis's cancer treatment last week.
On January 1st, The Floridian posted a follow-up story that confirmed  DeSantis had indeed been at his wife's side and attending to their three small children.

“Cancer treatment is a private matter so it’s not something I would usually be able to talk about as an official spokesperson, but the First Lady has been courageous to share her diagnosis and inspire others.” Stated Pushaw. The governor has gone to treatment with her before; it just wouldn’t be on the public schedule because it’s a personal appointment. We are all proud of her strength and grace, and it’s admirable that the governor balances all his work for the people of Florida with his commitment to being there for his wife and kids.

Rep. Wasserman Schultz, who has herself battled breast cancer, did not comment any further on her social media after it was known why DeSantis had taken time off.

DeSantis continues to address the COVID-19 pandemic with a visit to South Florida later today.
