Trump Endorses Buchanan in Reelection Campaign

Share

President Donald Trump (R) continues to involve himself in the upcoming 2022 election. The former President has already endorsed numerous candidates and incumbents, but his most recent endorsement comes in support of Florida Rep. Vern Buchanan’s (R) reelection campaign. Though Florida decidedly voted for President Trump in the 2020 election, Buchanan solely doesn’t face contention from a Democratic candidate. Instead, Buchanan is being challenged by Martin Hyde (R), a Republican from Sarasota.

In his endorsement, President Trump called Buchanan “a terrific representative of the people of Florida.” Trump added that Buchanan “is working hard to lower our Taxes, grow our Economy, support our Military and Vets, protect our Seniors, and defend our Second Amendment.”  Enthusiastically, Trump affirmed that Buchanan had his “Complete and Total Endorsement!”

The endorsement was released through a statement released by the Save America PAC.

In response to Trump’s support, Buchanan thanked the President, saying that he was “honored to have the endorsement of President Trump.”

“I look forward to working with him to take back the House so we can put our economy back on track, get people back to work, and restore America’s greatness,” Buchanan added.

Should Buchanan defeat his primary opponent and win the general election, and if the GOP reclaims control of the House, then Buchanan would be the senior Republican in the Ways & Means Committee. He would also be a favorite to chair the committee, which is considered the most powerful committee in the House.

Buchanan’s opponent, Hyde, has gained the endorsement of Trump confidants General Michael Flynn and Roger Stone, which came as a shock to many.

Neither the President nor Buchanan have commented on the endorsements for Hyde, who once called President Trump a "wretched" individual.

Stone is serving as a political consultant for Hyde, who faced recent controversy after being accused of directing racist remarks towards Puerto Rican tennis players.
