Shevrin Jones Says Trump's Influence 'Threatens Democracy'

Even after his presidency, it is no secret former-President Trump (R) still has incredible influence over the Republican Party.  Some like State Senator Shevrin Jones (D-35) even think that Trump's influence threatens our democracy.

As news broke that President Trump will be in South Florida joined by conservative commentator Bill O'Reilly this weekend, State Senator Jones fired off a statement that should make the two feel everything but welcome.

Trump and O'Reilly will reportedly be at the FLA Live Arena this Saturday, where Jones says they will be, "spinning everything Trump did while in office, trying to rally supporters for their own personal gain."

Now, Shevrin Jones is insistent on Floridians remembering, "the truth," of the Trump presidency, even suggesting that he is a threat to democracy itself:

"We remember how Trump’s dangerous lies threatened the future of our democracy. We remember the children that Trump put in cages. We remember the people that Trump let die by pretending the pandemic didn’t exist. We remember all of the people that Trump and his cronies hurt during his time in office," stated Sen. Jones.

Jones also called out the staggering influence that the former president holds over the Republican party, claiming that his, "radical MAGA agenda," will stop, "functional democracy where elected officials on both sides work in the best interest of the people they serve."

There is no question that the influence of President Trump will play a crucial role in the 2022 midterm elections across Florida as many lawmakers have given their two cents on the former president.  The Floridian recently reported on state Representative Spencer Roach (R-79) who made the bold claim that Gov. DeSantis (R-FL) would beat Trump in a presidential primary.
