President Biden's Approval Rating Sinks in new Poll

A new ABC/Ipsos poll, conducted by Ipsos working in tandem with ABC News and using Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel, indicates that approval of the Biden administration continues to sink ahead of the 2022 midterm election. Previous polls have indicated that both President Joe Biden (D) and Vice President Kamala Harris’ (D) approval ratings have taken a significant hit regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, issues related to the southern border, and rising inflation among other concerns.

However, the new poll shows that the Biden Administration has not recovered from floundering support.

Regarding the poll, 69%  of Americans disapprove of how President Biden is handling rising inflation compared to 28% that approve of the President’s work. Among party lines, 54% of Democrats approve of President Biden’s handling of rising inflation in contrast to 94% of Republicans that disapprove. 57% disapprove of the way the President is handling the recovery of the economy. Moreover, 71% of Independents do not approve of President Biden’s handling of rising inflation.

On the subject of the COVID-19 pandemic, 53% of Americans polled approve of the President’s handling of the pandemic, but his polling his considered the lowest it’s been in ABC/Ipsos polling since Biden assumed office.

On the issue of a rising crime rate, 36% of Americans polled approve of the President’s handling, which is significantly lower than the 43% that approved in a late October poll. Also, in reference to gun violence, 32% approve of his handling, which is down the October poll that resulted in 39% approval.

On the issue of climate change, 51% of those polled approve of the President’s measures while 81% of Democrats side with the President.

Finally, when it comes to the United States’ tension with Russia 38% of Americans believe the president can negotiate on behalf of the U.S. with Putin while a June poll indicated that 49% believed he could do the same.

The poll comes ahead of the 2022 midterm election, which many political pundits are calling a mandate on the expansion Democrats could either gain or lose because of the President’s first two years in office.
