DeSantis Accuses Democrats of Wanting a 'Woketopia'

On the heels of New York voting to approve a measure that would allow non-citizens to vote in local elections, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) sent a message to supporters, warning that Democrats are trying to turn the United States into a “Woketopia.” Instead, DeSantis reminded voters that “our Constitution is based on the idea of ‘We the People.’”

In speaking about the intention of the Founding Fathers, he commented that the goal of our Founding Fathers was for our government to uphold “the consent of the American people.” However, he argued that what he’s seeing is that “Democrats reject this, preferring a ‘Woketopia that violates the principals on which our nation was founded.”

One way that Democrats are allegedly rejecting this is by endorsing the idea of “non-citizens” voting in elections.

“Could you imagine the reaction of people, in, say, France if you or I sought to vote in their elections?” Questioned DeSantis.

Earlier this week, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) questioned his challenger, Florida Rep. Val Demings (D), over whether or not she would support such a measure should it be introduced in Florida.

“Val Demings supports liberal voting laws that would radically diminish the integrity of our elections,” said Elizabeth Gregory, the communications director for Marco Rubio for Senate.

Accusing Democrats of seeing “themselves as global citizens rather than American citizens,” DeSantis criticized Democrats, claiming that they are exhibiting “contempt for our Constitution.”

DeSantis, echoing in the Rubio campaign’s remarks, further warned that “these non-citizen voting policies are going to spread and had Florida not passed a constitutional amendment that only American citizens can vote, Democrats would be fighting to implement these same radical policies here.”

This, DeSantis argues, is a reason why "it's high time Democrats start prioritizing American citizens and putting their needs first.”
