Immigration policies at the southern border continue to be a topic of contention among lawmakers, and Florida Senator Rick Scott’s (R) recent visit to the border was underwhelming for him. On social media, Scott, the former Governor of Florida, reflected on his trip to Yuma, Arizona, arguing that concerns at the border are “caused by Joe Biden’s disastrous open borders & amnesty policies.”
A number of lawmakers have called for the Biden Administration to enact immigration policies that will “secure the border.” Most recently, Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) issued a call, which received some scrutiny from Senator Marco Rubio (R) over previous comments the Florida Democrat had made regarding border concerns.
Most recently, Senator Scott took a trip to Yuma, Arizona to survey the border, and the Florida lawmaker expressed several assessments after the visit.
I was just on the border with local leaders & law enforcement in Yuma, AZ. Here’s my takeaways:
1️⃣ @CBP is facing SWARMS of illegal immigrants every day
2️⃣Biden has laid out a welcome mat for human traffickers & drug cartels
3️⃣ @SecMayorkas has totally failed & must resign. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/v4XQ6K8z9k— Rick Scott (@SenRickScott) November 23, 2021
Scott shared that U.S. Customs and Border Protection “is facing SWARMS of illegal immigrants every day,” adding that “Biden has laid out a welcome mat for human traffickers & drug cartels.” Moreover, Scott also directed criticism at the Department of Homeland Security, charging Secretary Mayorkas with having “totally failed” and calling for his resignation.
“This is all caused by Joe Biden’s disastrous open borders & amnesty policies,” Scott commented, adding that “drugs are pouring in & Americans are dying.”
The comments come at a time when the United States is facing a growing drug problem, which has resulted in a large number of people losing their lives. As well, the Sunshine State, for years, has dealt with a growing fentanyl issue.
This is all caused by Joe Biden’s disastrous open borders & amnesty policies. Drugs are pouring in & Americans are dying. It’s hurting Florida & every community across America.
I’ll keep fighting every day to stop this lawlessness & make sure we finally SECURE THE BORDER. (2/2) pic.twitter.com/80GJQz64mB
