Salazar: All Cuba Need is The ’Green Light' From Biden To Provide Internet Access

Share

Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL) blasted President Biden Tuesday for not giving "the green light" in providing internet access to the Cuban people, giving excuses for their refusal to help the protestors showcase the communist regime plan in its crackdown over the historic demonstrations by blocking the "connectivity" in the island.

The Biden administration "haven't done anything with the internet. We need connectivity for the Cuban people. There is technology, and I know that technology is out there. I have spoken with them, and they have told me that they need the White House blessing," Salazar told The Floridian.

Salazar explained the process in which government contractors have the capacity to implement access to the internet, but the administration is basically "not willing to go over and beyond" in giving those the technology access.

"They need the green light from the White House in order to give that connectivity to the Cubans because the government contractors that deal with the Cuba issue and have the technology are not willing to go over and beyond where the United States government is telling them because they are government contractors," Salazar said.

"So we're stuck. And I don't like it. Because we know that out there is technology to help those people. All I'm asking is for connectivity. That's it. Let the Cubans decide what they want to do with it," Salazer added.

Salazar held a press conference Tuesday morning outside the U.S. Capitol, following the November 15 protests that broke out in Cuba, where she expressed solidarity with the Cuban people and called for democracy and political freedom for those living in the communist island.

"A few weeks ago, Cuba's brave freedom fighters planned to go back to the streets and shout 'Libertad' – or liberty – once again. They encountered threats, kidnappings, and abuse. And yesterday, when the time came, they were muzzled once again," Salazar said during the press conference.

"There are no excuses. Cuba will be free soon. We know that. The Castros’ days are numbered. They know it. The Cuban people are on the right side of history. The United States needs to be with them. Now — it’s up to the Biden Administration," Salazar added.

The Florida congresswoman blasted Biden for not doing his "due diligence" to help the protestors, noting he has "done nothing" but only giving excuses since the summer protest broke out.

"[The Biden administration] continues to keep on telling me it's not so easy," Salazar proclaimed. "It is easy, and I have done the research. I was an investigative reporter. I went to the company, and I spoke with the CEO. They explained to me what they can do and what they cannot do, and the technology is out there."
