Rubio Slams 'Hypocrite Marxist' Danny Glover Over Cuba

As the Cuban people embark on taking to the streets to protest the Castro regime, the domestic conversation continues regarding the issues affecting the Cuban people. Danny Glover, an actor and outspoke supporter of Hugo Chavez and Nicolas Maduro, has now penned an op-ed, criticizing the United States government for contributing to oppression in Cuba.

In writing for the Miami Herald, Glover called for the United States to lift its restrictions, which would enable the Cuban government to share the COVID vaccine. In response, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) slammed Glover as a “hypocrite Marxist” over his op-ed.

In the opinion piece, Glover argues that “the U.S. government’s Cuban embargo has made it extremely difficult for Cubans to get vital medical supplies and enough raw materials to share their vaccines around the world to their full production potential.”

When the Cuban people took to the streets earlier this year, access to COVID medication was posited as a reason for the protests, lawmakers like Rubio in South Florida have argued against blaming the embargo.

In contrast, as with Glover’s opinion piece, he directs readers not only to the embargo, but he also shares that Biden has disappointed in one of his campaign promises.

“On the campaign trail, Biden pledged to reverse Trump’s Cuba measures, which he said, ‘have inflicted harm on the Cuban people and done nothing to advance democracy and human rights,’” said the actor, adding that “unfortunately, he has yet to live up to that pledge and has continued the harmful policies of his predecessor.”

In response to the actor’s analysis, Senator Rubio called it hypocritical.

Taking to Twitter, Rubio expressed that “hypocrite Marxist Danny Glover can criticize U.S. policy without fear, but always defends a regime that jails Cubans who criticize them.”

The protests continue this week as the Cuban people take part in the November 15th protest.
