Biden's Spending Plan Slashes Medicaid, Harms Poor Americans

Share

Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) used his Twitter account to call out every single member of Congress from states of “FL, AL, GA, KS, MS, NC, SC, SD, TN, TX, WI & WY” warning them to reject President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan because it will cut Medicaid, and  “make massive cuts to charity hospitals,” as well as harm poor Americans.

According to a tweet Sen. Scott sent out to members of these respective states, President Biden’s proposed infrastructure bill would give “huge SALT tax breaks to rich blue-state donors & make massive cuts to charity hospitals."

Congressional Democrats have historically accused Republicans of wanting to slash or abolish Medicaid and hurt “poor” or underprivileged Americans, but now that Democrats are laser-focused on passing the $4 Trillion “tax-and-spending spree package, it appears as if they can live with cutting Medicaid funding allocated for  “charity hospitals” that many poor Americans rely on.

In a letter he penned to those aforementioned members of Congress, Senator Scott cited Biden’s bill itself to make the case for his allegation that Democrats will make “massive cuts to Medicaid.”

“Section 30608 of the “Build Back Better” bill put forward by Democrats in the House of Representatives would cut 12.5% from Disproportionate Share Hospital Payments (DSH) and reduce payments from states’ Uncompensated Care Pool (UCP),” stated Sen. Scott. I want to be very clear: what I have just described are massive cuts to Medicaid, supported by Speaker Pelosi and top House Democrats, squarely targeted at non-expansion states, which you represent.”

Scott continued, “Making drastic cuts to these valued and incredibly important programs defies reason. House Democrats are choosing to impose needless cuts which would hurt charity hospitals and harm the poor.”

Congressional Democrats are at odds with one another as the Progressive wing of the Caucus is defiantly holding its ground and refusing to concede political ground to the more liberal or moderate faction of the Democratic Congressional Caucus.

Several of these Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Stephanie Murphy, want to see the scoring of the bill by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) before offering any support for the trillion-dollar spending bill.

“Today, yet again, a small group of my Democratic colleagues blocked passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill. These delays are undermining the President's agenda and embarrassing the Democratic Party. More importantly, they’re hurting our country and our constituents,” stated Rep. Murphy a few days ago.
