Rubio Mentoring GOP Effort for Diversity in Elections

After the 2020 Presidential election, the GOP faced infighting regarding members that supported President Donald Trump (R) and those that didn’t. While it appears that tension within the party has calmed down to an extent, the question surrounding the next generation of leaders looms over it. With the upcoming 2022 midterm election around the corner, the 2024 Presidential election will soon follow. A number of Republicans have been rumored to be preparing for a Presidential campaign, but a new GOP effort mentored by Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) and others aims to push for more diversity in elections.

The Republican State Leadership Committee announced this week that it would be launching its “Right Leaders Network.” The effort’s goal is “prioritizing electing more women, as well as candidates from communities of color and diverse backgrounds.”

Some prominent Republicans that have been announced as mentors are Florida Senator Rubio, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (R) and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R).

Senator Rubio, who’s currently running his reelection campaign against Florida Rep. Val Demings (D), has not confirmed if he’ll make another Presidential run in 2024 and has instead argued that he’s focused on his current reelection.

Governor Haley has commented that, should President Trump decided to run again in 2024, she would not be announcing her candidacy, telling the Associated Press earlier this year that she “would not run if President Trump ran, and I would talk to him about it.”

As for Senator Scott, he provided a comment to the Associated Press regarding his reelection campaign in 2022, not commenting on whether he would run for the presidency in 2024.

Instead, Scott assured that the Republican party “stands for opportunity for Americans of all backgrounds, and we are strongest when our candidates and leaders look like America.”

Dee Duncan (R), President of the Republican State Leadership Committee, commented on the effort, saying that they “are incredibly proud of the collection of trailblazers who have agreed to participate in the Right Leaders Network, and I know they will be critical in our continued mission to elect candidates all across the country that better represent the communities they serve.”
