Senatorial candidate and Rep. Val Demings (D) appears to be fuming mad over Senator Marco Rubio’s latest attack ad against her.
In a fundraising email sent out to supporters and prospective donors, Rep.Demings says that Sen. Rubio’s attack is nothing more than a “shady attempt to smear Val Demings’ record, adding that the reasoning behind the ad is because the two legislators are “statistically tied.”
Not true.
The latest Susquehanna poll shows that Sen. Rubio leads Rep. Demings 50 percent to 39 percent. That’s an 11-point lead.
The poll Demings is referring to is one from St. Pete Poll, a questionable poll that is alleged to be propped up and supported by a local liberal blogger who is working with an anti-Rubio political action committee based in Miami.
But polls aside, the message Rubio’s video carries is accurate.
Rubio claims that Demings has voted with the Democratic Socialist “Squad” 94 percent of the time.
This is accurate.
The Floridian was the first to report that Demings’ voting record mirrored that of the “Squad.”
Demings has voted with both Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar 94 percent of the time, and with Ayanna Pressley 95 percent of the time.
The video also claims the recently proposed $5 trillion infrastructure bill was nothing more than a “liberal wishlist on the American people,” a measure that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez calls “an enormous Progressive victory.
Demings voted for the House infrastructure bill.
Rubio also accuses Demings of supporting the Progressive “Green New Deal”
Again, Demings supports the “Green New Deal.”
Demings did not co-sponsor Ocasio-Cortez’s legislation in the House, but she did cosponsor the THRIVE agenda.
“Today I'm proud to announce my support as an original cosponsor of the THRIVE Agenda. Let's stop pretending that climate change, racial injustice, and economic inequality are outside of our control. The THRIVE Agenda puts people first by unequivocally stating that our health, climate, and human rights are intertwined.
What is the THRIVE Agenda?
The THRIVE Agenda is part of the Green New Deal Network, per their website.
The senate race between Demings and Rubio is expected to one of the most contentious races of the 2022 midterm election cycle.
