Senator Joe Manchin’s (D) opposition to President Joe Biden’s (D) $3.5 trillion budget has dominated the news. Moreover, Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D) has also signaled that she can’t fully back the budget because some aspects of it “give me pause.” As lawmakers prepare to vote on the budget that the President has championed, the National Republican Senatorial Committee released a statement. In the statement, the NRSC spokeswoman criticized Florida Rep. Val Demings’ (D) “silence” while disregarding the President's budget as a “socialist tax & spending fee.”
Republicans have overwhelmingly opposed the President’s budget, but Congressional Democratsats have shared varying opinions ranging from fully supporting, fully opposing, and even being a bit wary about the measure.
However, the NRSC launched criticism at Rep. Demings who is currently running to unseat Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R).
In a statement from Priscilla Ivasco (R), the spokeswoman for the NRSC, Ivasco commented that “while Stephanie Murphy continues to stand up to her party’s leadership in Washington, Val Demings is blindly following the lead of Nancy Pelosi, AOC, and the Squad.” Ivasco added that “the optics aren’t looking good for Demings, who is all in on the socialist tax and spending spree.”
Warning that “Floridians don’t need another candidate that looking for a promotion with nothing to show for it,” Ivasco concluded that Demings “isn’t fighting for Floridians’ best interest. As a matter of fact, she’s not fighting at all.”
Earlier this week, Murphy admitted that she couldn’t “make an informed, substantive decision” on the bill “without the full text of the Ways & Means portion of the bill.”
Demings has not vocally acknowledged whether or not she supports President Biden's $3.5 trillion budget. Because of this, the NRSC called Demings’ “silence” an example that “she will never be an independent voice for the people of Florida.”
