Jeanette Nunez
While everyone already knows Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D), the self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist from New York, a lot more people are talking about her tonight. This week, Rep. Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) appeared at the Met Gala wearing a dress that read "Tax the Rich." However, the political statement did not go without backlash, triggering Lt. Gov Jeanette Nunez (R-FL) to lash out at "Champagne socialist" AOC.
Although Nunez is at odds with AOC over any and every issue, Nunez is typically slow to startle. The Lt. Governor of Florida hardly gets involved with controversy and stays relatively quiet. However, the night of the Met Gala was too much to keep in for the calm politician.
Nunez took to Twitter to display her disgust, saying, "Only in America where a self-described Democratic socialist can wear a $10k 'tax the rich' dress," highlighting that it costs, "$30K for a ticket, and be praised as a champion for the poor. Champagne socialists like AOC are far removed from reality.":
Other Twitter users responded to the video, originally posted by Variety, with ironic remarks about the Congresswoman's $40,000 budget to pull this political statement off. Others have called on her to use her power and act on 'taxing the rich,' and not simply wearing a dress that reads it. The point being, both sides were pretty ticked at this display.
Other prominent voices got involved in the now trending Twitter war, including Donald Trump Jr.:
"What makes @AOC a bigger fraud: The "tax the rich" dress while she's hanging out with a bunch of wealthy leftwing elites or the lack of masks after spending the past 18 months as one of the biggest authoritarian mask Karens in the country?" - Donald Trump Jr.
