Kathy Castor, House Progressives Support Biden's Climate Change Measure

Share

As Congressional Democrats continue to try to push through another trillion-dollar "fix-all" bill, Florida's own US Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) joined Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) in support of the new "Build Back Better"infrastructure bill, giving a nod of approval to the House Progressives of her political party.

When asked if House Progressives like Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib supported the climate change measure, Rep. Castor said that House Democrats were "pretty united."

"We're pretty united here. Climate is usually the unifying factor in all of this," said Rep. Castor

Rep. Castor said that the pricey infrastructure bill was the "most ambitious clean energy package in history,' and pointed to the unification of the Democratic Party behind the bill.

From Methane production to July of 2021 being "the hottest month in history," Castor swears that this infrastructure bill will help America "Build Back Better" as she embraced very progressive terms like "Climate justice."

The Floridian spoke with Castor shortly after her press conference with Speaker Pelosi and asked if the bill did enough in terms of climate change.  Castor responded, "Yes if you combine Build Back Better and the Biff, it helps us avoid the catastrophic impacts of climate if we can get this done."

Castor added, "Remember reconciliation was a little bit different because you have to focus on those investments, you can't do broad policy as much, but this isn't the last bill the Congress will ever debate on climate."

Castor elaborated that the United States has to keep legislating over climate change to avoid its effects.  But in terms of passing the bill, it is a totally separate issue.

"I've heard a little bit of skepticism, but I haven't heard any line drawing.  So hopefully this is what they're talking about at the White House right now, "concluded Castor

The bill is yet another policy under the Biden Administration with a price tag upwards of $1 trillion.  However, President Biden has confused Americans recently, claiming it will cost the United States $0 to enact the new infrastructure bill.
