Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has shot down “rumors” that he is looking beyond his 2022 gubernatorial reelection and is eying a 2024 presidential run for office.
During a press conference at another Monoclonal treatment site in Central Florida, Gov. DeSantis was asked about his potential 2024 political aspirations.
DeSantis sharply swatted down the “rumors that he is looking to run for president, calling the “speculation” as “purely manufactured” by politicos and media outlets.
“All this speculation about me is purely manufactured. I just do my job, we work hard,” said Gov. DeSantis. I hear all this stuff, and honestly, it's nonsense.”
DeSantis is considered to be the frontrunner in the 2024 Republican presidential primary race if former President Donald Trump decides to not seek reelection.
Several recent polls conducted at two separate CPAC events in Florida and Texas show DeSantis as the hands-on favorite to with the GOP nomination, but again, only if President Trump doesn’t run.
Florida Democrats like Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz have been pushing the narrative that DeSantis has been failing Floridians with his COVID response because he is more focused on running for president.
Other potential Florida Republican presidential candidates are Sens. Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.
