According to Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Gov. Ron DeSantis is “dumb” and “deadly,” and “death will be his legacy” as a result of the rapid spread and mutation of the COVID-19 virus in Florida.
Rep. Wasserman Schultz’s wielded her assault against Gov. DeSantis on Twitter as news outlets reported on the massive surge of COVID-19 cases across the state and pointed at the headline of a Rolling Stone magazine editorialized story about the infection rate among children in the state.
"This is a @RollingStone headline - not the @TheOnion. And the deadly, dumb @GovRonDeSantis response to #FloridaCovid is no joke," tweeted Rep. Wasserman Schultz, adding that "Today in Broward County, 14% of #COVID19 cases are people who were vaccinated. Today: 22,783 single-day cases statewide, yet @GovRonDeSantis listens to COVID quacks rather than legitimate science. Delta and DeSantis are deadly. Death will be his legacy.
“Governor of State Leading Nation in Kids Hospitalized with Covid Fights to Ban School Mask Mandates,” reads the Rolling Stone story headline.
The news-editorial accuses DeSantis of deciding to “sacrifice Florida’s kids — especially those who are too young to be vaccinated — on the altar of personal freedom.”
Wasserman Schultz and every other parent in the state has reason to be alarmed considering how pediatric wards are filling up with COVID patients as a result of children and adults not being vaccinated against the virus, let alone against the new Delta variant that is said to make up the overwhelming majority of the new cases.
Broward Health hospital in Fort Lauderdale, which is situated just a couple of miles outside of Wasserman Schultz’s congressional district, is seeing a big influx of COVID children patients, as more and more non-COVID patients are being moved to overflow rooms so that the main pediatric wards can accommadate children with COVID and other serious illnesses.
The good news is that it appears as if all of the COVID positive children are recovering within a few days of falling ill and are being discharged, according to one nurse is who is one of the pediatric overflow wards at Broward Health.
DeSantis is accused by Wasserman Schultz of listening to “COVID quacks rather than legitimate science” in making his decisions for Floridians.
One of those “quacks” DeSantis is listening to is Dr. Cody Meissner, Chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease and Professor of Pediatrics at Tufts University School of Medicine, who recently stated, “Closing the schools has aggravated the issue of inequity in our society.”
DeSantis has recently said that he would not implement a mask mandate in schools, nor would he close schools as a result of the surging virus.
