Rep. Val Demings
After getting crushed in fundraising, US Rep. Val Demings (D-FL) and her campaign have announced they have a plan to "get rid of" Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) , however, her voting record may force her plan to flip Florida fall flat.
A recent email blast, US Rep. Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) describes Demings as "a strong champion for civil rights and public safety " and a "friend."
"Republicans in Florida have failed to protect our state from the coronavirus and are instead playing petty politics with our lives. Despite House Democrats’ work to make the vaccines widely available, Florida is setting records daily for its skyrocketing COVID-19 cases."
"GOP leaders like Marco Rubio are a threat to our public health, not to mention our voting rights, election integrity, reproductive rights, and more."
The email then adds that Demings "will move this country forward, not back." However, The Floridian recently reported that Demings has seemed to change her tune on political matters after announcing her bid for the Florida Senate seat.
"The old firebrand Demings would have gone after Gov. DeSantis by name and probably called for mask mandates, but this is a new Val Demings who needs to try to appeal to all Floridians and is smart enough to know that running as a far-left candidate in 2022 after Progressive Socialism was summarily defeated in 2020, is a suicide mission," stated Publisher Javier Manjarres (8/12/2021)
Rubio has previously called Demings a Socialist which she appeared to reject. But as Manjarres wrote, it is a risk to run as a far-left candidate when the GOP has an advantage going into the 2022 midterms, according to several polls.
Aside from rhetoric, even her policy doesn't match the new Demings we're now seeing. The go-getter Congresswoman we all see on the campaign trail only had two sponsored bills become law, bills that simply renamed two post offices.
