Stephanie Murphy Says She's 'Ready to get to Work' to Investigate Capitol Riot

Share

After the Republican-led U.S. Senate blocked the 1/6 commission measure filed to create a bipartisan and independent investigative body to find out the root cause of the January 6 Capitol riot, House Democrats have decided to take the matter into their hands and have created a 1/6 select commission.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has spearheaded the hyper-partisan committee and appointed Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D) along with several other House Democrats and two House Republicans, to investigate the unfortunate riot that left three dead and many others injured.

"As a member of the 1/6 Select Committee, I’m ready to get to work to find the truth and secure our democracy," stated Rep. Murphy.

All of the members, both Republican and Democrat who sit on the new committee, have historically expressed their dissatisfaction with former President Donald Trump, and have directly blamed him for the riot that took place and led to three deaths, and have voted to impeach him.

It will be interesting to see how the usually even-tempered and measured Rep. Murphy will stay true to herself and not go down the usual hyper-partisan and vitriolic political rabbit hole that Democrats like Rep. Adam Schiff tend to hope into when it comes to former President Donald Trump?

It appears as if Murphy has already been down that hole before.

“This Select Committee will find the truth of what happened, and why it happened, so we can ensure that it (Capitol riot) never happens again,” stated  Murphy in a tweet.

The self-styled centrist and “Blue Dog Democrat" Murphy could face a strong Republican challenge in 2022 by Conservative State Rep. Anthony Sabatini, who has already gotten her attention.

In one of her recent campaign fundraising emails, Murphy sounds more like a partisan progressive candidate than a middle-of-the-road moderate Democratic, calling Sabatini “the  worst, most extreme, Trump-loving Republican.”

Yes, campaigns are campaigns, and raising money on emotion is what both political parties and candidates do every election cycle, but if she continues to try to brand Sabatini as a “radical” or “extremist,” the more she loses traction with centrist Republican and Independent voters, and the more Sabatini fundraisers off of her attacking his Conservative and pro-Trump bona fides.

Sabatini will also use Murphy’s voting record against her. Murphy shakes loses her moderate footprint in Congress when her voting record is examined.

Murphy has voted with the likes of Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 90% of the time.
