Rubio Says Armed Cuban 'Shock troops' Look to Break Up Protests

Over the weekend, the people of Cuba marched in the street in protest against the Communist Cuban dictatorship. In South Florida, supporters did the same, taking to 8th street (Calle Ocho) to wave Cuban flags and chant for liberty for the Cuban people. There was a widespread response among South Florida lawmakers, and Senator Marco Rubio (R) took to Twitter to comment on the growing protests in Cuba and on issues that must be addressed for the people to be one day be able to see liberty on the island of Cuba.

Senator Rubio, who is currently running a reelection campaign against Florida Rep. Val Demings (D), commented on everything from the lack of 2^nd amendment rights of the Cuban people to sources outside of the island that is strengthening the Cuban dictatorship.

“No one in Cuba has guns,” shared Rubio, adding that last night “heavily armed socialist shock troops are marching in Havana.” In turn, Rubio warned President Joe Biden (D) that “this regime will threaten you with another Mariel & is willing to murder unarmed people to stay in power.”

Rubio had also estimated that Cuba would “block internet & cell phone service” to prevent images and information to reach other parts of the world, and he followed up by noting that “it is happening and will continue.” He also mentioned that Cuba uses “a system made, sold & installed by China to control and block access to the internet in Cuba.”

Finally, Rubio commented on how both Russia and China are empowering Cuba, which leads to more oppression on the people of Cuba.

“Both Russia & China have major signal intelligence facilities inside of Cuba which are used to intercept and spy on telephone and electronic communications inside the United States.”

However, although many have pointed out how dangerous it is to protest under a communist regime, Rubio did share a quote from the Bible that suggested that the protests will only strengthen.

Citing Exodus 1:12, the quote reads, “yet the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread.”
