Over 4th of July weekend, Americans from across the country celebrated by spending time with their families, taking part in BBQs and possibly taking to social media to highlight what they believe makes the United States great. Lawmakers did the same, but there was a stark contrast in the way GOP members and Democrats shared their remarks. While Democrats shared that the United States has a lot more work to do, Republican lawmakers like Senator Marco Rubio (R) aimed verbal jabs in response to the criticism, saying that America is "better than anywhere else."
Currently, Florida Senator Rubio is involved in a reelection campaign, and it appears he will be facing off against Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) in the upcoming 2022 midterm election. He has shared that he believes Democrats are embracing more “radical” views, and the Florida Republican celebrated Independence Day by praising the United States while also criticizing some views that Democrats have shared.
While agreeing that “America isn’t perfect,” Rubio expressed that “it’s better than anywhere else, ever.”
He went on to share that “if you believe our country is such a horrible & inherently evil place there are 192 other countries you can move to.”
The comments come after a number of Democrats have referenced recent political turmoil that has divided the country.
