Rep. Stephanie Murphy
As the 2022 midterm election draws closer, lawmakers and American voters are eager to see the results. Both Republicans and Democrats are expecting to expand their ground on the political landscape. In a recent appearance, former Vice President Mike Pence (R) praised President Donald Trump (R) while also acknowledging the “tragic day” that took play at the Capitol. During an interview with CNN, Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D) commented on the political repercussions of the 2020 presidential election, sharing that the United States will “continue to have fair, close, and hard-fought elections.”
Commenting that the storming of the Capitol was “an act of political violence to try to change the outcome of an election,” the Florida lawmaker added that “we’re a country… where we’re going to have close and hard fought elections, but we have to be a country that is willing to accept the results and we have to understand these trends, not only at the highest levels but also the folks who showed up that day to prevent us from certifying the election.”
The storming of the Capitol resulted in President Donald Trump (R) being impeached for a second time, and a Commission to further investigate the riot on January 6th has already been established.
Murphy shared the interview segment on Twitter, arguing that “political leaders and the public, regardless of party, must be willing to accept the results.”
She noted that if they are not able to accept the results of elections, “the alternative is the downfall of our democracy.”
the Florida Democrat was heavily rumored to be launching a Senatorial race against Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R). However, Florida Rep. Val Demings (D) announced her own Senatorial campaign as Murphy announced her own congressional reelection campaign.
