President Donald Trump's most loyal allies, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R), is continuing to push his idea of nominating the former president to be Speaker of the House if Republicans take over the majority in that chamber, and is raising money off of the possibility that Trump may be interested in the position.

Rep. Gaetz is also pushing back against former Trump Spokesman Jason Miller who recently texted that Trump had "zero desire to be speaker," calling Miller "misinformed on this point."

"Jason Miller is misinformed on this point. (Or, since he left, maybe he has his own agenda?) There is but one governing voice in Trump World: TRUMP! Even Kevin acknowledged that Trump wanted to be Speaker," tweeted Gaetz.

Gaetz is referring to a past statement House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy made on Fox News when the idea of Trump becoming Speaker first began to circulate.

“You know, I have talked to President Trump many times. He tells me he wants to be speaker, and I think he should be president.”-Leader Kevin McCarthy

“Well, I’ve heard the talk, and it’s getting more and more,” Trump told Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody last month when asked about becoming speaker. “But it’s not something that I would’ve considered, but it is certainly—there’s a lot of talk about it. I have a good relationship with Kevin [McCarthy] and hopefully, we will do everything traditionally. But the election was a horrible, horrible thing for our country.”

“So just think about how great it will feel when, after we take back the House and send Pelosi back to the filth of San Francisco, we make our next Speaker of the House Donald J. Trump!” Gaetz stated in his most recent fundraising email.

Gaetz will be in Dallas this weekend at the CPAC Texas event where he is expected to entertain questions about nominating Trump to be Speaker.

In case you were wondering, to be Speaker of the House, being a sitting member of Congress is not a prerequisite. Anyone can be Speaker.
