Days after the Department of Veterans Affairs announced it was requiring a vaccine requirement for medical facility employees, President Joe Biden (D) is expected to announce on Thursday that federal employees and contractors are mandated to either get the COVID-19 vaccine or to be regularly tested. In response, a number of lawmakers have commented on the news, and Florida Rep. Byron Donalds (R) has vehemently opposed the decision. Arguing that the President has “gone full communist,” Donalds criticized the President for his decision.

Last year, a number of GOP lawmakers faced off against Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D) over the congressional mask mandate, and lawmakers were even forced to pay fines for not wearing a mask while attending congressional meetings.

In a statement, Donalds, serving his first term as a Florida Congressman, addressed “Chairman Joe Biden.”

“Chairman Joe Biden has gone full communist as his Administration plans on forcing federal employees to get vaccinated against their will,” he said, adding, “I never thought I would love to see the day when the so-called leader of the Free World would put political power over personal freedom in this latest anti-American and tyrannical infringement of government power.”

Donalds also expressed that “the government should never be in the business of coercing the citizenry into making medical decisions but rather provide all necessary information for the people to make sound decisions for themselves and their families.”

Donalds’ comments come after Alabama Governor Kay Ivey (R) expressed frustration last week over rising COVID-19 cases.

The state is experiencing the lowest vaccination rate in the United States, and Ivey said that when it comes to rising COVID-19 cases, “it’s time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks.”

Ivey shared that “it’s the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down.”
