DeSantis Shares Thoughts on Border Briefing

Last weekend, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) took a trip to the southern border for an immigration briefing with Gov. Greg Abbott and local officials to oversee the work that law enforcement was doing to protect the border with Mexico.

The Friends of Ron DeSantis released an email with the Governor’s statement discussing his thoughts on the visit. In the email, DeSantis says that he saw “an unmitigated crisis at our border like we’ve never seen before.” GOP members have called for President Joe Biden (D) to visit the border since he was inaugurated. After Vice President Kamala Harris’ (D) visit, DeSantis says he is still waiting on action from the President.

If one asked “who’s to blame?” regarding the border concerns, DeSantis expressed that “none other than Joe Biden and Kamala Harris” because “Biden-Harris revoked the successful Trump border policies in favor of reckless open border policies.” Leading up to the 2020 presidential election, GOP members criticized Democrats for supporting such “open border policies,” and ahead of the 2022 midterm election they continue to warn of its dangers.

“Drugs, crime, and human trafficking are pouring into our country at record rates,” explained the Florida Governor, “but this problem doesn’t end at border towns in Texas and Arizona.” The Governor noted that “traffickers are flooding into every state in America, especially Florida.”

“Because the federal government won’t do its job, I sent Florida law enforcement to help secure our border last month, and roughly 70 percent of the illegal border crossings they apprehended said Florida was their ultimate destination,” informed the Governor.

In turn, DeSantis blames the Biden administration, saying that “this lawlessness and continued crisis is both empowered and encouraged” by it.

For the Governor, who hasn’t ruled out a 2024 presidential run as his support among conservatives continues to rise, his conclusion is that “our communities are more dangerous today because of the ‘open borders’ policies of the Biden administration.
