Cruz: Biden is 'Weak' and 'Mealy Mouthed' on Cuba

Share

Washington D.C.- Today, as the American Conservative Union "Cuba Libre" event showcased some high profile federally elected officials, President Biden's (D) leadership against the Communist regime has been challenged after many Cuban-Americans, such as Mercedes Schlapp, who feels the president is not doing enough.  Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) added to the 'Biden is weak' narrative, calling the president "weak" and "mealy-mouthed" on Cuba.

Sen. Cruz, who is also of Hispanic descent, hailed the recent protests that encouraged the Cuba Libre event as "heroic."  But Senator Cruz remains concerned for the messaging to the Cuban people as he told The Floridian today, "I think the most important thing for the Biden Administration is to speak out clearly," adding, "The Biden Administration has been weak and mealy-mouthed."

"They suggested that the protests were against 'misadministration' or because of 'COVID vaccines,'  he added.  "Last I checked the protestors in the streets of Havana are not chanting 'manage better' they're changing "liberta!'"

Cruz elaborated on the president's seemingly lax position on the issue, stating "We need to see the Biden Administration speak with clarity, stand up and say the Cuban regime is evil, it is oppressive, it is a dictatorship, there is no free speech, there are no human rights, there is poverty and misery and suffering and Cuba deserved to be free."

Cruz then summarized his rant exclaiming that "We need a president who will speak out with truth and candor and say 'We are on the side of the Cuban people, and not the Communist thugs that are beating them right now!'"

Florida Democrats, like State Rep. Carlos G. Smith (D), have largely placed blame on the US embargo on the Cuban island, or COVID-19 vaccine mismanagement, while maybe delivering a shot or two at Communism every now and then.  However, GOP leaders such as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) have resented this, calling for the other side to address the failing Cuban regime.

Cruz sees this as a simple "unwillingness to stand up to America's enemies" as Biden and Vice President Harris (D) stay silent on the oppressive Cuban government.  Adding "appeasement is a disaster, it doesn't work, and sadly that characterizes the Biden Administration's foreign policy."
