Young Conservatives Flip Climate Script on Democrats

Share

Today in Miami, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) signed HB 1177 to further provide protection and aid to Florida wetlands, in particular Biscayne Bay, which the governor described as a "critical resource to the region."

Climate change has been an uphill battle for Republicans, but Florida Republicans and young conservatives may be flipping the script on Democrats with HB 1177.

This legislation builds off of the $20 million announced in December of 2020 and an additional $20 million from the budget in protections for Biscayne Bay, according to Governor DeSantis, and may be the first step of many in getting Republicans as a whole to finally address climate change.

Tomorrow in Miami, The American Conservative Coalition (ACC) has chosen Florida due to Governor DeSantis' leadership on the environment and proving that conservatives can be proactive about the issue as well.

The ACC has grown to more than 220 branches and is featured on college campuses with ties to Capitol Hill.  The group has faced bipartisan criticism but mostly makes up young conservatives in their membership.

The movement has gained national recognition as well, as Michigan representative Peter Meijer claims "This shouldn't be a partisan issue and it should be something that we can find sensible common ground on," adding that this would require the Democrats to "not greenwash the economic redistribution efforts and it requires the Republican Party to stop denialism."

The event will be held this Saturday on June 5th, 2021, in Miami, FL from 4:00-6:00 pm in Bayfront Park and will feature like-minded Republicans such as former Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, former Congressman Carlos Curbelo, Congresswoman Maria Salazar, Congressman Carlos Giménez, State Senator Ana Maria Rodriguez, State Representative Demi Busatta Cabrera, Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago, and if they're lucky, Governor DeSantis will make an appearance.  You can click here and register your attendance!
