[Warning: Graphic Video/Images] Florida Condominium Collapses, 99 Missing, 1 Dead

Surfside—Hours after the Champlain Towers condominium collapse where one person Is confirmed dead and over 90 still unaccounted for, Gov. Ron DeSantis held a press conference to address the ongoing “search and rescue” operation being spearheaded by Miami-Dade County. Gov. DeSantis thanked first responders and noted that they were on the scene saving lives shortly after the collapse even without knowing the remainder of the building any “structural integrity” left.

“The TV doesn't do it justice. I mean it is really, really traumatic to see the collapse of a massive structure like that,” said Gov. DeSantis before vowing to help local officials with anything they need during the rescue effort. DeSantis also said he still has “hope to identify additional survivors.”

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava brief reporters on what the county was doing to assist the city of Surfside and survivors, thanking local cities https://youtu.be/pHZq5NlmdvEand law enforcement for banding together to help the “predominantly Jewish community” of Surfside.

Mayor Cava added that the county’s “social service agency” and fire and police departments are working alongside the Red Cross to “make sure that those people (displaced residents) are properly situated.”

“There's not a lot that little Surfside can do except ring the alarm bell, and we rang the alarm bell, and Mayor Cava sent the calvary, as did the governor, and that has made all the difference in the world,” said Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett.

Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez called for calm and "patience" during the recovering efforts. CFO Jimmy Patronis, who is also the State Fire Marshal, tweeted, "The damage here at Surfside is horrifying. NEVER seen anything like it."

Former State Senator and current Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rene Garcia told The Floridian that "people of different faiths are coming together with that sense of hope" to find more survivors.

There are currently 99 people unaccounted for including the family of Paraguay’s President Mario Abdo Benitez’s family.

They were identified as Sophia López Moreira, the sister of first lady Silvana López Moreira, and her husband, Luis Pettengill. Their three children and Lady Luna Villalba, a worker accompanying the family, were also missing.” (NBC)

Hatzalah of South Florida, a volunteer not-for-profit ambulance organization set up a triage center and were assisting residents alongside one nurse. Republican congressional candidate Carla Spalding was the only registered nurse on-site helping assist with the displaced residents.
