Florida Senator Marco Rubio has responded to firebrand Rep. Val Demings' announcement that she would be running for the Senate against him, calling “The Real Val Demings” an “ineffective and far left and extremist.”
Sen. Rubio’s remarks about Demings were made via a Twitter video posted less than an hour after Demings announced.
Rubio started the video saying that he “always” knew that whoever the Democrats tapped has his opponent, that the person would be “a far-left liberal Democrat” and that he was looking forward to challenging the “do nothing” Demings who he says has not accomplished “a single significant legislative achievement in her time in Congress.”
Demings was successful in championing the impeachment of former President Donald Trump and later voted to have him ousted. President Trump has already endorsed Rubio.
Demings also recently called Republicans who held up the Capitol riot investigatory commission "cowardly politicians."
Rubio appeared to lay out all the hits against Demings, adding that she supported defunding police and voted against deporting criminal illegal aliens.
Rubio made the following points in his video:
- You know that during the pandemic, while Congresswoman Demings was sitting back home praising the governors of New York and California and hysterically predicting that we're going to mass death if we didn't keep our schools closed and our entire economy on lockdown, I was in Washington working to write and to pass the bipartisan PPP program that saved half a million Florida small businesses and millions of Florida jobs.
- You know that while Congresswoman Demings was on TV calling plans to defund the police “thoughtful” and describing a violent riot as a “beautiful sight,” I was writing and passing the VA accountability act to help our veterans
- You know that while Congresswoman Demings was voting against voter ID laws, voting against deporting gang members who are illegal aliens, I was almost singlehandedly getting the child tax credit double for working Americans.
- And more, Congresswoman Demings was voting with the Marxist squad 94% of the time, and with socialist Nancy Pelosi by the way 100% of the time, I was being hit with sanctions and the travel ban by the Communist Party of China, I was getting death threats from the socialist Maduro regime in Venezuela.
The table is set for arguably one of the most ideologically driven and possibly divisive statewide political contests in Florida history.
Call it East vs. West, Left vs. Right, or whatever you want, but this race will push the ideological envelope to its limit. This race set the tone for the entire ballot.
