With all the focus in Florida now on the Surfside building collapse, notable politicians especially Gov. Ron DeSantis, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and CFO Jimmy Patronis (R-FL) have honed in their concerns on the South Florida community. And now with Israeli Defense Force aid sent to the area, President Biden (D) has just announced he will visit Surfside this week.
After the new Prime Minister of Israel spoke to Governor DeSantis (R-FL), and not President Biden, the White House has now confirmed that Biden would visit the site later this week. The White House previously said Biden would wait to visit Surfside until he was certain that the security and logistics that accompany a presidential visit would not interrupt the search, rescue, and recovery efforts underway at the Champlain Towers.
With a death toll now passed ten, many Florida politicians have already been there, such as DeSantis and U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) who confirmed on Twitter that he is working with FEMA and CFO Patronis who briefed him on the damages to the community.
Senator Scott however seemed to be very concerned with the Jewish community, in particular, confirming he met with Jewish community leaders:
"Our Jewish community has been especially affected by the #SurfsideBuildingCollapse tragedy. As search & rescue continues, I’m working with @femaregion4 & Jewish community leaders here in Surfside to help coordinate the federal response & ensure their needs are met," Scott Tweeted yesterday.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management has been able to confirm that efforts are being focused on the region from the "Local, state and federal officials continue to coordinate response & recovery efforts for the [sursfside building collapse]."
