Rep. Bill Posey (R) is one of the staunches Conservative Trump Republican you will find in the U.S. House of Representatives, and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) is one of the most liberal and anti-Trump representatives, but these to veteran lawmakers have been able to put their political ideologies and differences aside and have been able to work together at both the state and federal levels for 30 years.

The Floridian sat down with Rep. Posey to talk about his current relationships in the House, and on the issues, legislators are currently debating and voting on.

Posey is a member of the House Freedom Caucus, so when it tells you that he wants nothing to do, or “avoids” the House Progressive “Squad” at all costs, believe him.

But even though it is abundantly clear that Posey will not work with his progressive colleagues, he will work with arguably one of the most liberal members of the House Democratic Caucus, Rep. Wasserman Schultz.

“I've worked with Debbie Wasserman Schultz on a number of issues going way back to the Florida House and the Florida Senate,” said Posey. “You know I let her bill, her legacy bill be heard in the ƒsqSenate when the Senate president said ‘don’t you dare let that bill get heard.’ I let it be heard and passed it on to my committee and it went to the floor.”

Posey says he tries to “find that common ground” with his colleagues, adding that he and Rep. Wasserman Schultz have been able to work on a number of bipartisan bills together while in the U.S. Congress, including space legislation that he has championed over the years.

“She really is easy to work with,” stated Posey.

“I don’t begrudge her for that,” said Posey about Wasserman Schultz being “180 degrees opposite” of him ideologically, adding that he respects the fact that she is who she is and tries to represent her constituents as best she can, as does he with his constituents.

Meanwhile, Posey’s contempt for members of the “Squad” transcends across political lines in Congress, as both Republicans and Democrats have taken issue with the apparent divisive and offensive rhetoric that has been coming from Reps, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Cori Bush, and Rashida Tlaib.

Just recently, Reps. Ted Deutch (D) and Wasserman Schultz singled out Rep. Omar for equating the U.S. to the Hamas terror group.

“Equating the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban is as offensive as it is misguided,” the statement reads, “Ignoring the differences between democracies governed by the rule of law and contemptible organizations that engage in terrorism at best discredits one’s intended argument and at worst reflects deep-seated prejudice.”
