Anderson Announces State House run to Replace Sprowls

Florida Rep. Chris Sprowls (R) is currently serving as Florida’s Speaker of the House aside from representing Florida’s 65^th State House District. In the upcoming 2022 midterm election, Sprowls will not be able to run for reelection because he will be term-limited. During a time when both Republicans and Democrats are trying to expand their ground on the political landscape, Sprowls’ district could face a challenge as Kelly Lynn Johnson (D) has already filed to contest for the red district. This week, Adam Anderson (R), a Pinellas County business owner, filed paperwork to keep the district red after Sprowls leaves office. Anderson also shared that he wants to keep the momentum going and add on to the “decade-long history of Florida leading the way.”

In a statement announcing his candidacy, Anderson praised the work of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) “and our state legislature” because “Florida’s journey through this pandemic has been unique.”

“Where other states shuttered businesses, kept our children out of school, eroded individual liberties, and ignored or neglected the most vulnerable populations among us, Florida has done just the opposite,” Anderson elaborated.

Making a contrast to other states that are still facing lockdowns, Anderson commented that “our schools are open, our economy is growing, our freedoms have been protected, and we’ve prioritized the well-being and health of our state’s seniors.”

Regarding his campaign and the “vision for what the next Chapter of Florida’s success story looks like,” Anderson expressed that his idea of a successful Florida is “one in which we build on our success in education by continuing to invest in students and empowering parents” and one “where we responsibly balance our budget and give businesses the greatest chance at success.”

The district is expected to remain red, and the most recent voter tabulation with the Pinellas County Supervisor of Election indicates that the district has a nearly 13,000 advantage for the Republican party.

The district has 38,172 registered Democrats while there are also 53,670 registered Republicans.
