Democrats to Defend Charges of Socialism, Forget They Admit to Being Socialists

Former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) is supporting Democratic State Senator Annette Taddeo (D) and her effort to defend charges of socialism made against Democrats. Mucarsel-Powell has asserted that Republicans have been pushing “lies & false attacks” against Democrats, falsely accusing them of running a socialist agenda in the 2020 presidential election and currently in the current 2022 mid-term election

"The lies & false attacks from Republicans about socialism have to stop,” tweeted Mucarsel-Powell. "They’re destroying our democracy using lies to get votes, ultimately turning our government into a dictatorship.”

Republicans effectively defeated Democrats like Mucarsel-Powell in 2020 by running an effective anti-democratic socialism campaign to counter the Democratic Party nationwide Progressive campaign that mirrored the Bernie Sanders Democratic Socialist agenda.

Mucarsel-Powell ran and won her 2018 congressional race running as a centrist-Democrat, denouncing socialism and communism along the way, but during her term in office, Mucarsel-Powell voted in lock-step with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and members of the House Progressive “Squad.”

Former fellow freshman Rep. Donna Shalala (D) was also part of the anti-socialism campaign that defeated her and other congressional Democrats across the country, but while Mucarsel-Powell and other Democrats like Sen. Taddeo continue to decry that Republicans are lying about Democrats having ties or supporting socialism, it’s hard for them to defend the fact that Rep. Shalala (pictured) called herself a “pragmatic Socialist.”

Shalala’s Republican opponent, current Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar even used the video of Shalala claiming to be a “pragmatic Socialist” during the campaign trail.

"I'm a pragmatic socialist," cleared Shalala on the 2020 campaign trail.

Cuban-Americans, Nicaraguan-Americans, and Venezuelan-Americans, as well as other Latin Americans who have denounced socialism, voted out Shalala and Mucarsel-Powell because they believed the two former legislators had ties to socialism. While Mucarsel-Powell can deny supporting socialism, Shalala cannot.

Now, couple Shalala's admission with the admissions of support for socialism from self-styled Democratic Socialists like Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib, the Republican case in support for their ongoing campaign to paint Democrats as Socialist appears to be validated.

Earlier this year,  Senator Marco Rubio (R) called for Democrats to denounce Florida state Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith (D) defending of socialism when he questioned a claim that the ideology had killed people worldwide.

“Again, Wow! These are stunning allegations that socialism has killed people around the world. My question is, are you at all concerned that by focusing on Democratic socialism,” said Rep. Smith.

Meanwhile, Shalala is said to be considering another run for congress, as is Mucarsel-Powell.
