Demings Confirms she's 'Seriously Considering run' Against Rubio

Share

After taking a shot a Senator Marco Rubio late last week, and after POLITICO reported that she was considering a senate challenge to Sen. Rubio in 2022, Rep. Val Demings (D) has officially announced that she "seriously considering a run for the Senate."

Rep. Demings's remark came in form of tweet, where the former police chief thanks well-wishers for their support for her probably run for higher office.

"I'm humbled at the encouraging messages I'm seeing today," stated Demings. "I know the stakes are too high for Republicans to stand in the way of getting things done for Floridians, which is why I'm seriously considering a run for the Senate. Stay tuned."

Senator Rubio was asked by Capitol reporters about Demings potentially running against him and the senior senator from Florida brushed off the question, saying that Demings would first have to get by her expected primary election against, Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D) and other Democrats who may enter that soon-to-be contentious primary contest.

But like we stated before, the spirited and free-speaking Demings could be her own worst enemy in the 2022 mid-term election.

The issue Demings will have by running statewide in Florida is not so much that she could be running against a very well-liked and funded Republican Sen. Rubio, she will have to explain her Progressive voting record.

According to the non-partisan Pro Publica website, Demings has voted with Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 94% of the time. Demings’ progressive voting record ranks second only to Progressive “Squad” members, AOC, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib.

Demings is pro-Police and does not support defund police, but her recent support and advocacy in favor of the George Floyd "Justice in Policing Act of 2020" which police departments nationwide say would 'handcuff' on the streets,  could be problematic for the form short-list candidate for vice president.
