Crist Campaign Announcement Faces Heavy Scrutiny

Share

As the 2022 election season approaches in Florida, several key election announcements have been released, including one from Representative Charlie Crist (D-FL), whose announcement fell relatively flat for a gubernatorial run announcement.

The announcement makes Crist the first prominent Democrat to announce for the 2022 Democrat gubernatorial primary election, where Democrats will vie for the opportunity to face off with, and possibly defeat Gov. Ron DeSantis.  However, this would be Crist's third time running for the governorship, and only his second time running as a Democrat.

Crist, who is a former Republican governor of Florida, could have significant primary challenges ahead of him, as many Democrats might not see him as the "Progressive" that many in the Democratic Party see Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried (D-FL) as being.

The Crist campaign has met with extreme criticism, including that of  Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) who in a recent press conference responded to a question about Crist's announcement by asking, "What party is he going to run in this time?  He's lost as a Republican, Independent, Democrat."

"But you know I looked up, he's voting with Nancy Pelosi 100% of the time in Congress, I thought heck, maybe he gives the Green Party a chance, he's certainly voting that way.  So we'll see what happens," quipped DeSantis before making a quick exit.

As of now, there have not been any ringing endorsements for Crist, but Florida's GOP Twitter has been spreading Crist's candidacy like wildfire.  Evan Power of the Republican Party of Florida has jumped on the announcement swiftly, claiming that Crist has, "no principles.":

While Crist may be a familiar face for Floridians and especially Democrats, he might not be a candidate well received by the modern left-wing, and if his past performances are any indicator, not a good pick to beat an ever-popular DeSantis in 2022.
