As the 2021 legislative session in Florida came to an end, a number of bills, including the controversial HB 1475 transgender athlete bill, drew national attention. However, the Biden Administration has vowed to confront state passed anti-trans bills, with the Department of Justice publicly stating they are ready to, "fully enforce our civil rights statutes to protect transgender individuals," leaving room for judicial challenges.
Co-author of HB 1475 Florida Rep. Spencer Roach (R-79), believes that biological males have a natural advantage in female sports, and the legislation is only in efforts to create a "level playing field," as many girls could suffer scholarship losses.
The bill passed the Senate and was signed into law with heavy criticism from top Florida Democrats.
However, Roach has been very vocal about the issue, claiming it truly comes down to the local school boards. In a previous Fox interview. Roach called school board elections "The most important," even more so than the state legislature and the presidency.
This was in response to liberal policies in Lee County public schools over restrooms, where he called Lee County's public school board, "Over 50% far-left woke democrats."
Roach has stayed consistent with his Conservative beliefs on the transgender movement, claiming matters like these stay out of government involvement.
