Debbie Wasserman Schultz
Since the end of the Trump Era, and the beginning of the Biden Administration, drastic moves have been made in Washington, not just in the new presidential cabinet, but in foreign policy and women's health. The performance of Sec. of State Antony Blinken (D) has been very rivalrous to that of Sec. of State Mike Pompeo (R) and has even earned the praise of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) via Twitter.
Religious freedoms are one of the defining factors of the US, however, Blinken intends to abolish the Commission of Unalienable Rights in order to, "repudiate those unbalanced views", as the former Secretary Pompeo was criticized for promoting evangelical conservatism through his role.
Blinken has justified his actions claiming, "There is no hierarchy that makes some rights more important than others."
While also calling out the Chinese for their inhumane treatment of Muslim citizens, the State Department has shifted gears on women's reproductive health.
During the Trump Administration, many health experts blasted the president for refusing to fund abortion clinics.
Blinken issued a statement in regard to women's health where he did not alienate abortion, but did promise a bigger emphasis on the issue in his State Department.
Sarah Holewinski, the director of the Human Rights Watch was obviously pleased as she called the announcement a "big deal." She then elaborated on her support of the changes:
"When women die from preventable pregnancy-related causes, there are likely to exist policies and laws that undervalued their life."
This news even caught the eye of national high-ranking Democrat, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Schultz took to Twitter to voice her content, claiming that Sec. Blinken is going to, "Repair that damage and make clear: women's rights, including access to reproductive health care, are human rights."
This drastic policy shift did not go without criticism though, as Conservative groups such as the Family Research Council's VP Travis Weber refuted the policy changes, claiming there is, "no right to abortion" in international law.
Of course, this is not news that traditional Conservatives should be happy to hear, but Biden did essentially promise us an America that looks similar to that of the Obama Administration.
