AG Commissioner Nikki Fried and her folks over at Florida Consumers First appear to have taken a premature victory lap around Gov. DeSantis when the 60 Minutes aired their now-debunked and “Fake News” hit piece on him over his COVID-19 vaccine rollout. DeSantis appears to have gotten the last laugh here.
How bad was the hit piece?
Even Democrat officials like Jared Moskowitz called it out. Palm Beach Mayor David Kerner called the segment “not just based on bad information, it was intentionally false.”
“@60Minutes I said this before and I’ll say it again.@Publix was recommended by@FLSERT and @HealthyFla as the other pharmacies were not ready to start. Period! Full Stop! No one from the Governor’s office suggested Publix. It’s just absolute malarkey,” stated Moskowitz.
Paging Nikki. Come in Nikki.
Prior to the 60 Minutes segment airing, Fried thought that her pathway to the governor’s mansion would be cleared, but that didn’t happen. Fried tweeted that CBS has going to be “exposing the nation” to Governor Ron DeSantis’ “failings & corruption during the pandemic.”
Uh-oh.
Was Fried given a sneak peek at the segment?
But if you expected Gov. DeSantis to ignore and dismiss the story and chalk it up as just another attempt to smear him, you were wrong.
Appearing on Tucker Carlson last night, DeSantis pull out his old Yale Louisville Slugger and took swing after swing at the “Fake News” expose.
DeSantis didn’t miss.
“It was a political narrative, it was done with malicious intent and a reckless disregard for the truth,” said Gov. DeSantis
He also pointed to the known fact that Florida was vaccinating Seniors and minority communities before Publix was even thrown into the vaccine distribution mix.
"They didn’t tell you we were doing African American church vaccination drives before Publix gave a single shot... They don’t believe in facts. It was a political narrative,” DeSantis continued.
In closing, DeSantis reiterated that “two prominent Democrats” came out to denounced 60 Minutes.
DeSantis: “What we did has worked. And obviously, they were in Florida for 3 months, 60 Minutes, trying to drudge up any dirt that they could use to smear me, and the best that they could come up with is a baseless conspiracy theory that was easily debunked, not just be me, which they had to edit out, but by two very prominent Democrats in the state of Florida.”
Now, can Floridians expect 60 Minutes to come down to Florida again and do an exclusive on Fried’s involvement in the medicinal marijuana business that she appears to have profited from and continues to promote as AG Commissioner? Remember, Fried’s fiancé Jake Bergmann, her dad, and others, have all benefitted here.
