Murphy: U.S. Must Press Chinese Communist Regime

Share

Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D) took to Twitter this morning to make a call to action, urging the United States to take a stand against both racism and the Communist Party of China. The United States has been involved in an ongoing feud with the Communist Party of China that reached its heights under the Trump administration, but now some detractors are arguing that the Biden administration has not been as pressing to the Communist regime as it vowed to be.

Murphy, who was recently re-elected to lead the Blue Dog Coalition, stressed that “we have to make a very clear distinction that our adversary and competitor is the Chinese Communist Party, not the Chinese people, and certainly not the Asian Americans who have contributed so much to this country.”

“When we attack Americans of Asian descent, we attack ourselves,” she added.

The Communist regime has received condemnation for its treatment of Uyghur Muslims, and lawmakers have pressed for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics to instead be held somewhere else.

In response to the criticism, the Communist Party has attempted to deflect attention, choosing to instead direct verbal attacks at the United States. In addition, the Communist Party has also launched "20 aircraft, including bombers, to fly around Taiwan," according to Lucas Tomlinson of Fox News. This is reported to be an attempt to overtake the island.

Florida Rep. Michael Waltz argued that this is a clear example of how the Communist Party of China "is emboldened by what it perceives as weakness in Washington."

“It is part of a broader strategy that the Chinese Communist Party is enacting to undermine our democracy,” Murphy explained in an interview with the Washington Post. She added that “when you see them creating that false equivalency… it is their way to sow discord in our society, because they understand when we are not united, we are weaker in leading the world in confronting their bad behavior.”

As the United States focuses on out-competing China, lawmakers also stress that it must confront concerns that are present on domestic soil as well.

The United States is in “a battle between the utility of democracies in the 21st century and autocracies,” said President Joe Biden (D), adding that “we’ve got to prove democracy works.”
