Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) appeared on MSNBC and threatened legislative action to have Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor (R) stripped of her congressional committee assignments if Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy doesn't act first.
Rep. Wasserman Schultz gave Leader McCarthy until Wednesday to decide on removing Rep. Green from her assignments.
“Her constituents entered Congress, she can vote on the floor, but on Thursday if Kevin McCarthy has not removed her from her two committee assignments then the house of representatives should do that, and I have filed the legislation that would move that process forward,” said Wasserman Schultz.
Congressional Republicans like Rep. Byron Donalds can only defend Rep. Taylor Greene by invoking her Freedom of Speech rights when she spewed offensive, small-minding, and conspiratorial remarks, but they can’t, nor will they defend her the offensive rhetoric.
Wasserman Schultz, like many House Democrats, overdramatizes issues a bit, but in the case of Taylor Greene, the dramatization of the case against the freshman congresswoman is not too far off.
“When you have a member like Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has actually promoted violence against fellow members when she liked and promoted statements that others made about putting a bullet in Nancy Pelosi,” stated Wasserman Schultz.
Greene actually “liked” social media comments that called for the murder of Speaker Pelosi and other House Democrats.
House Democrats are now saying that they will put Greene’s committee assignments to a vote on Thursday, and Republicans have now called for Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) to be stripped of her committee assignments for her past anti-Semitic remarks.
A Parkland mass shooting-denier and victim stalker has no right to make policy in a collegial body. If Kevin McCarthy doesn’t remove @MTGreenee from the House Education & Labor and Budget Committees, I filed legislation to do it for him. pic.twitter.com/eISBEh2CIm
