Murphy: U.S. Must Be "Vigilant Against Terrorism" and Chinese Threat

Share

During his 2020 presidential campaign, President Joe Biden (D) argued that China was “not competition for us,” and he repeatedly noted that they were not an economic threat. However, this week, the president noted the threat that China poses on the United States, and earlier this month he vowed that China would “eat our lunch” after having spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying  that “it was a good conversation.”

President Biden now faces mounting pressure from both Republicans and Democrats that believe the United States should be "vigilant against terrorism" from China and for the country to answer for transgressions like the treatment of Uyghur Muslims in the country.

Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D), leader of the Blue Dog Coalition, has been vocal about the threat that China faces, and she updated this week on the terrorist threat that China now joins.

“Was just briefed on the terrorist threat facing our country from ISIS & al-Qaeda, Iran-backed groups, & domestic terrorists,” she explained. Murphy added that “as we confront threats from China, Russia, North Korea & Iran, we must remain vigilant against terrorism.”

Other Florida lawmakers like Senators Marco Rubio (R) and Rick Scott (R) have also been vocal regarding their opposition to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), making the call for the 2022 Winter Olympics to not be held in Beijing while also arguing that the Chinese Communist Party should be held accountable for their mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mike Pompeo, the former Secretary of State in the Trump administration, criticized President Biden for his “flip-flopping” on the subject of whether or not China poses a threat to the United States.

In an interview during the Ingraham Angle on FOX News, Pompeo called Biden’s response “muddled,” and he feels that it's a "fantasy" to assume that the United States can just talk to Chinese Communist Party and expect them to change their ways of governing.
