Castor Praises VA for Administering Vaccines to Veterans

Last week, Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D) shared his disapproval of the Veteran’s Affairs Administration for allegedly continuing to turn away veterans between the ages of 65-71 at their various hospitals and clinics. Said veterans were seeking the COVID-19 vaccine, but they were still turned away. In turn, the former Governor of Florida filed the Vaccines for Veterans Act in January, and now Florida Rep. Kathy Castor (D) is praising improvements from the Veteran’s Affairs systems in administering vaccines.

On Twitter, the Florida lawmaker praised the Tampa VA office, calling them “caring health professionals in Tampa” that are “helping us to lead the nation in vaccinating veterans.” She added that “Haley VA is vaccinating veterans over the age of 65, other eligible vets and frontline workers.”

Both the VA systems in Tampa and Bay Pines are providing vaccine shots to military veterans that are 65 and older, and they are also beginning to administer the shots to individuals that are 18 and older that are frontline workers.

Currently, the Sunshine State is experiencing a decline in COVID-19 cases after dealing with numerous weeks of skyrocketing cases. The state has continued to make a push towards administering vaccines by promoting a partnership with companies like Publix and Wal-Mart.
