Anthony Sabatini accuses Speaker Sprowls of targeting his Conservativism

The results of the 2020 election exposed how vulnerable Democrats are, and how strong Conservativism is among Republicans throughout the state of Florida.

Florida Democrats were handed crippling losses during the past election cycle after Floridians rejected the Socialist Democratic message that Florida Democrats thought would pave a road to victory.

The political divide between Republicans and Democrats has grown, and even though Democrats are scrambling to find their footing, Republicans are also facing divisions within the party.

Florida Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R), arguably the staunchest and most vocal conservative in Florida Legislature, has taken issue with incoming House Speaker Chris Sprowls (R) and has all but blamed him for the apparent shunning Sabatini has received in regards to committee assignments.

“I was assigned LESS committees than any Republican in my class,” Sabatini announced this week. And in questioning why he hadn’t received more committee assignments, it seems that Sabatini is largely being left in the dark.

Providing further information, he explained that he has “been denied an amount of Committee assignments"  that he says would be equal to those of his colleagues.

He also questioned if his assignments had anything to do with his personal, political beliefs, arguing " I was targeted for being an outspoken conservative or whether it was ‘unintentional’ is still to be determined.”

Since being elected to the Florida House, Sabatini has presented himself as not only a staunch conservative but also a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, and when asked for his thoughts over his lack of assignments, Sabatini told the Floridian that it could be the result of “a civil war between the establishment Republicans and conservatives.”

“Targeting conservatives and stripping them of committees is not the way to unite the Republican Party,” Sabatini stated.  Sabatini continued, arguing that “it sends a clear and terrible message to the grassroots conservatives I represent.”

In a time of coming together after the election, Sabatini asserts that this infighting does not contribute to growth heading towards the 2022 midterm election. With Speaker Sprowls not providing a response to Sabatini’s frustration, Florida Republicans will continue to look for unification in a time when the political landscape is changing.
