Spiking COVID infection rate continues killing Americans

The infection rate from the COVID-19 virus continues to rise at an alarming rate with more than 100,000 daily cases having been reported in just under a month’s time.

But just as the infection rate skyrockets, the newly-announced vaccines won’t be available in time to curb the disease in the coming weeks, but instead are expected to make an impact starting in late winter and early spring.

Congressional Democrats like Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz wants Americans to heed all the warnings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and government officials of practicing all preventive measures to protect themselves, including the continued use of a mask.

Rep. Wasserman Schultz now believes that “staying home” could be the best option to help defeat the spread of the virus.

“With rising cases come rising deaths,” stated Wasserman Schultz. “Keep wearing your masks, washing your hands and staying home. We can beat this virus together.”

The notion that Americans should stay put and not go out and run the risk of catching the virus is not a novel idea.

President Donald Trump put into effect the first national shutdown, and former Vice President Joe Biden has also said that he would consider another government shutdown, once he has been sworn in as president.

Biden later walked back the statement, saying that he would not put into effect another national shutdown.

Very few people are in favor of shutting down the country again, especially after the disastrous effect that the first shutdown had on the U.S. economy.

According to CNN, as of this past weekend,  “more than 138,000 new cases and 1,100 deaths had been reported, according to Johns Hopkins University.”

There are currently 91,635 Americans hospitalized with COVID-19, with that number expected to rise expeditiously in the days, weeks, and months to come.

Just as the increase in infections rises, so does the death toll, with 2,100 deaths having been reported on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week.

One good news for COVID-19 patients is that the Regeneron treatment that President Trump received after he fell sick with the virus, is now beginning to be distributed.
