The 2020 presidential election “October surprise” appears to have already come to pass in the form of the defund police movement being propagated by Democratic members of Congress and militant anarchists and protesters supporting the violent Black Lives Matter movement.
Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D) has not openly called for the defunding of law enforcement agencies, but her sponsorship and vote in favor of the Justice in Policing Act is seen as veiled support for defunding police.
Outside of promoting the bill, Rep. Murphy has not stated whether or not she supports the defund police movement, a movement that as a result of its ongoing “peaceful protests” across the nation, has promoted rioting, vandalism, and violent actions against citizens, including murder.
According to Murphy’s legislative office, the lawmaker all-but states her support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
“Our fight for justice does not end here. I will continue listening to Black voices in my community and seeking input from forward-thinking law enforcement leaders who want to be allies in this effort. The Senate must now take up this bill or put forth their own meaningful proposal that reassures Black Americans that their lives matter.”
Murphy’s Republican congressional candidate, Dr. Leo Valentin, has called out her apparent refusal to denounce the “violence across the nation.”
Valentin told The Floridian that Murphy refuses to openly state her support for police for fear that the Democrat Party base of support would turn against her.
"Instead of denouncing the violence across the nation and supporting our law enforcement officers, Stephanie Murphy played partisan politics, which ultimately led to the blocking of meaningful police reform legislation, and supports diverting resources at a time when our officers need it most,” said Valentin.
According to the latest Pew Research poll (4,798 surveyed), the overwhelming majority of Americans do not support defunding police.
Since this and similar polls were published, Democrats have been quick to express their support for law enforcement, but Murphy has not done so yet, nor has she denounced the ongoing violence and rioting.
