Kat Cammack calls 'Defund Police' movement in House 'a sham'

Former Asst. Chief of Staff to retiring U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho (R), Kat Cammack, is the Republican congressional nominee in Florida’s 3^rd District and the presumptive next member of the U.S. House of Representative.

The congressional district is one of those very safe Republican seats, so Cammack is expected to cruise to victory over her ultra Progressive Democratic opponent, Adam Christensen.

During a Zoom interview with The Floridian, the 32-year-old Cammack addressed many issues, including term limits, which she has signed a pledge to do so in the house, and her support for the “Penny Plan” approach to get government spending under control and to “chip away at the debt” Americans are saddled with.

Cammack wants to “sit down with everyone” in the House, but her working with  “members like AOC” and Reps. Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib, “will remain to be seen" or in my opinion, never going to happen.

While her focused on tackling big-ticket issues like Agriculture, Infrastructure, and Immigration, the current movement to defund police hits home for Cammack, as her husband is a first responder and her father was a police officer.

“First thing I see in the morning is my husband's SWAT vest on our kitchen table,” said Cammack This cuts pretty deep for me. Being the wife of a first responder, my husband’s a firefighter, he’s a SWAT medic. My dad was a police officer.”

Cammack, who has a very unique perspective on the issue of defunding police, added that “as everyone is calling to defund police, I have been calling for years…We’ve been calling for additional resources…This hold defund police movement “pisses me off.”

“As they are looking to defund police, they are going to have to look me in the eye and explain why they think my husband isn’t fit to serve our community, and they can explain their solution for when we have situations in the community and hostage situation or violence in the communities. They can explain to me why their answers are better than mine.”-Kat Cammack

House Democrats recently introduced and pass the Justice in Policing Act, a bill that claims will make police officers and departments more accountable.

Cammack calls the bill “a sham” and says that “defunding is not the answer” rather the actual opposite, adding that police need to fully funded.

The Justice in Policing Act calls for the federal defunding of local and state police agencies who do not adhere to the bill. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) recently backed legislation that would defund municipalities who defund police.
