Texas GOP chairman Allen West defended President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court Nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett, calling her a “superb nomination” and slammed Democrats who have decried the nomination.
“Judge Barrett is a brilliant jurist with outstanding legal credentials. She has a proven track record as the type of jurist that President Trump has promised to nominate. She will serve the American people with honor and distinction on our nation’s highest court,” West said to reporters Monday morning in a Trump Victory call.
West said Democrats would “hurt themselves at the ballot box come Nov. 3” if they try to block Barrett’s confirmation.
“So, I think that again what they’re trying to do is show that they care little about the constitution they care more about power elections have consequences and so at this time the President of United States of America is Donald J Trump and the Senate is a majority of Republicans,” West said. “So his will proceed on and Lindsey Graham is already said that they will start the process on October the 12th and I think that if the Democrats want to go down the path of stalling and playing politics over this process they will only hurt themselves at the ballot box on November 3rd.”
Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) on Saturday tweeted minutes after Barrett announcement saying he will not treat President Trump’s nominee as legitimate.
“I will refuse to treat this process as legitimate & will not meet with Judge Amy Coney Barrett,” Blumenthal tweeted.
I will oppose the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, as I would any nominee proposed as part of this illegitimate sham process, barely one month before an election as Americans are already casting their votes. Americans deserve a voice in this hugely consequential decision.

West blasted Blumenthal calling Barrett illegitimate, arguing this is the same person who lied for years about serving in Vietnam.
“When I think about what Senator Richard Blumenthal recently just said over the weekend that he will refuse to meet with Judge Amy Coney Barrett, calling her nomination illegitimate, I find that discussing because here’s the same person who lied about serving in Vietnam, a place where my older brother served,” West said.
